Abstract

ABSTRACTED FROM THE INTRODUCTION: The present study is a result of a three-month research stay and internship with the Lutheran World Federation Cambodia (LWF), in Kampong Chhnang Province. It deals with a land dispute that was closely monitored by LWF and that serves as an example for ways in which land disputes are dealt with in the rural Cambodia of today. Rather than exploring in detail the reasons, scale or consequences of the global land grab, competition over land and land conflicts in Cambodia, which would exceed the scope of this paper, I will try to outline the general framework in which land conflicts occur and evolve in Cambodia, focussing on the strategies and existing mechanisms used in trying to solve them. The objective is to present the chosen case study of a village in Kampong Chhnang Province involved in a land dispute from a victim‟s, as well as from an NGO‟s perspective and to highlight the accordance as well as differences between the two perspectives on this particular case and the approach in solving the conflict.
